Sandstorm
Østfold Dance Company for Youth perform Sandstorm by Carl André Johansson.
What kind of world are we leaving behind for today’s youth? This is a central question behind the choreography Sandstorm by Carl Andre Johansson, which Østfold Dance Company for Youth will perform at several joined events and locations during 2024.
Johansson’s choreography was commissioned by Dansekunst i Østfold and Østfold Internasjonale Teater, and premiered at Østfold Internasjonale Teater as part of Strekk dansefestival November 4th, 2023.
Planned perfomances of Sandstorm in 2024
in 2024, Sandstorm will be shown in several locations together with Johansson’s other choreographies. In Halden, Hvaler and Moss, you can experience three of Johansson’s choreographies together: Hav, Horisont and Sandstorm, which each in different ways reflect on humanity’s place in nature, climate change and the environment.

Carl André Johansson
Choreographer and dancer Carl André Johansson is educated at Bårdar Akademiet, and has choreographed several performances in different formats and styles, including dance theater and musicals. In 2023 he premiered HAV, an outdoor dance performance that has toured large parts of Eastern Norway.
Johansson’s choreographies often combine dance, theater and music – which together create an intimate, physical and engaging expression. Johansson has received grants from Dansekunst i Østfold and the Norwegian Directorate of Culture, in addition to support for his performances. In 2020, he was in residence at ØIT to further develop new choreographic work.
At the initiative of DiØ, Johansson was part of the Creative LAB at CODA International Dance Festival in 2020-2021. With a desire to support the development of choreography as a professional discipline, Dansekunst i Østfold has initiated the local variant “Young dance talents meet young choreographers from Østfold”. Here, Johansson was the first choreographer to present this work.
