Østfold International Theatre’s residency programs offer professional performing artists the opportunity to develop an artistry or project. We offer three types residency: Scratch and Scratch dans (up to 1 week) and Residens (4 weeks).
There are two annual application deadlines, usually early June and December.
Scratch (short residency)
- 1 week’s access to the black box
- project funding of NOK 15 000,-
Scratch is a short residency to try out new ideas. This program is aimed at projects in an early exploration phase, or for testing a new element in a project. We offer one week of working time in the black box and project funding of NOK 15 000,- . The stay should conclude with a short presentation / work-in-progress and an informal Q&A. Your presentation can be aimed at invited guests or an open audience. Our theater director or another employee from ØITs artistic staff will follow up with a conversation about the project during or after the stay.
Artists with a local / regional connection are encouraged to apply.
Scratch Dans
In collaboration with Dansekunst i Østfold (DiØ), ØIT has expanded the Scratch program with residencies earmarked for dance projects. Applications to Scratch Dans will be treated by a committee in which a representative from DiØ participates. A representative from DiØ will also be responsible for the follow-up/ feedback.
Residens (long residency)
- 4 weeks with access to the black box /rehearsal room
- Project funding up to NOK 100 000,-
Residens is aimed at artists or companies that work, or would like to work, within ØIT’s primary focus area: Art in the public space or site-specific projects. The place / area in question should be within Fredrikstad / Viken County.
The residency program is aimed at exploration and development. Involving participants from other disciplines or sectors of society in the project is considered beneficial.
Duration of a long residency is usually 4 weeks, with access to a rehearsal room (see specifications for our black box below) or project office, and an upper limit in production subsidy of NOK 100 000,-
The stay should conclude with a presentation for specially invited guests or an open audience.
