Platform for Artistic Creation in Public Space
IN SITU Platform for Artistic Creation in Public Space is a network of artists, festivals and art institutions working with art in public space. IN SITU means “on site” and refers to site-based artistic expressions. The network was established in 2003 and as of 2025 has 24 partners from 22 different countries.
The IN SITU projects are based on art in public space as an interdisciplinary discipline, seeing artistic processes in the context of the economic, political and social reality. With elements from theatre, performance, visual and digital art, they aim to develop models for involving both artists, producers and audiences in creative processes.
Østfold Internasjonale Teater og IN SITU
Østfold International Theatre (ØIT) has been the Norwegian partner in the network since 2014. Through IN SITU, ØIT and the Norwegian public is granted access to innovative artists, diverse programming models and a vibrant dialogue about the role of artists in public space.
For artists, the programs offer courses, studios and residencies in addition to co-production and touring. In the period 2014-2024, curator and producer James Moore was responsible for ØIT’s participation the network, while from 2025 the work will be led by ØITs artistic director.
