Free online course on art in public spaces
Unique, digital series on art in public spaces reopens!
What is public space? Why do artists choose to work in these unconventional places and how do they do it? Mooc – Create in public space gives you unique access to lectures, tools and inspiration to understand and practice art in the public space.
What is a Mooc?
MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Courses and is a digital learning tool. MOOC – Create in Public Space is the first series of courses on art in public space, organized by the FAI-AR Academy of the Arts in collaboration with the network organization IN SITU.
The course was first held in the autumn of 2019 and is now reopened for new participants. Registration and the course are open until June 2020.
Who can participate?
The course is aimed at artists, cultural planners and programmers, institution leaders and others who are interested in learning more about art in public spaces.
Participants are offered almost 15 hours of video that deals with history and aesthetics, as well as dramaturgical, scenographic and communication aspects.
The course is available in French and English.
Participants will learn about different works of art designed for the public space, how they interact with the environment, as well as the special significance of audience relations in this context.
You will receive methodological tools and practical exercises to help you try out ideas in the creative role. You will receive the support of various European artists and professionals, who will share their experience and knowledge with you. The course runs over four weeks. Each week is dedicated to a specific topic and divided into:
- fifteen lessons, in the form of short videos of about 3 minutes each
- additional interviews with European artists and professionals, who share their insights and expertise
- educational activities
All who complete the course will receive a course certificate.
Bonus: Webinar series with IN SITU-organizers and artists
Through MOOC you will discover many art projects supported by IN SITU. This is a network of international programmers who are passionate about art in the public space, including Østfold International Theater.
Every Tuesday at 17:00 you get the chance to meet some of the IN SITU members online! Together with the artists or alone, the curators will present their strategies and thoughts on the work with art in public spaces. On May 5th, you will meet James Moore from Østfold International Theater together with Aleksandros Mistriotis, who has collaborated with ØIT on the performance The Reception in Moss
