Young talents meet young choreographers 2025

In 2025, Østfold Dance Company for Youth will premiere and tour “et streif av farge” by Live Skullerud. The premiere and tour are realised as part of the project Young talents meet young choreographers.

“Ungdomstalenter møter unge koreografer“, Young talents meets young choreographers is a collaboration between Østfold International Theatre and Dansekunst i Østfold where Østfold Dance Company for Youth is paired with a young and promising choreographer from Østfold. We are proud to present Live Skullerud as choreographer in 2025! She will invite the young talents into her artistic exploration of interpersonal relationships, interaction and community.

Live Skullerud

Live Skullerud is a dance artist born and based in Fredrikstad. After graduating from the University of Stavanger in 2018, she has worked creatively and performatively, both in her own projects and for a number of different choreographers and companies – including Panta Rei Danseteater, Hagit Yakira Dance, FRIKAR, Gerd Kaisa Vorren and Camilla Tellefsen. She has been working with ØIT in several projects, including Silver Boom i 2022 an an emerging artist in (UN)COMMON SPACES in 2023.

As an artist, Live is interested in how dance can convey something personal and universal about being human. During Young talents meet young choreographers, she and ØDU will explore the beautiful, the difficult, the playful and the vulnerable. Under the working title ‘What we do in the light’, they will explore some crucial questions of the nature of being young today: What choices do we have to make about how we want to exist in the world? How do we maintain curiosity and presence in present which can seem increasingly bleak, as well as filled with expectations of perfection?

Østfold Dance Company for Youth

Østfold Dance Company for Youth (ØDU) is a talent development programme and project company for young dancers aged 13-23. ØDU was established as Norway’s first county company for youth in December 2015. Since 2020, the company has been part of the activities of Østfold International Theatre, led by Ellen Røhr-Staff. Attending the programme is free of charge, however, travel expenses for rehearsals and performances may occur.

About Young talents meet young choreographers

The project ‘Young talents meet young choreographers’ took place for the first time in 2023/2024, with Carl André Johansson as choreographer. His choreography Sandstorm starring the company’s dancers world premiered at ØIT in November 2023. In 2024 it was performed in a number of venues together with other choreographies by Johansson, including Dansens dager Sarpsborg, outdoors at Storesand in Hvaler during §112 Fredrikstad and NonStop International Theatre Festival in Moss.

Live Skullerud met the company during Strekk dance festival at ØIT in November 2024 and started working with the dancers in January 2025. The finished performance will be sent on tour in Østfold in the summer and autumn of 2025.
